Motor Vehicle Administration Police Department MVA Website

The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), today with over 1,500 employees, had a humble beginning in 1910 when the office of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles was authorized to issue driver licenses and from 1914 through 1935 employed Motorcycle Deputies to enforce traffic laws. In 1971, the department was renamed the Motor Vehicle Administration and placed within the Department of Transportation. The MVA issues motor vehicle certificates of title and registration, and driver licenses. The Investigative and Security Services of the MVA was created to investigate violations of the Maryland Vehicle Laws, including fraudulent drivers' licenses and vehicle ownership documents.
